David Hockney is an English painter, draughtsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. Studied at the Bradford College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. In the early 1960s, he worked in a style that combined figuration, abstraction, and text, which identified him together with Richard Hamilton, R.B. Kitaj, and Peter Blake in the British Pop art movement. His work, however, is deeply individual and beyond such categorization. It consists of still lifes and portraits rendered with delicacy and frankness. Rooted in his personal relationships, his homosexuality, and his literary interests and travels, Hockney’s art are, above all, deeply autobiographical.
