School programs that are occasionally organized by the Department of Education of MSU aim to expand the general education, knowledge and interest in visual contemporary art. Programs are designed differently depending on whether they are intended for early childhood, students in primary, secondary or undergraduate education, or for a general audience.

 

 

New: MoCA School Fall 2023

 

The educational program within MoCA Skopje expands the educational discourse with a series of lectures and workshops titled “MoCA  School” under the mentorship of the artist Nikola Uzunovski. The program starts on October 3rd, with lectures every Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 8 PM (with an exception for the national holidays on October 24 and 26).

The lectures are free, but regular attending of the sessions and prior registration of the participants are recommended. All those interested can register by October 2nd at the e-mail address: info@msu.mk, with first and last name, profession and announcement whether they will follow the whole course or individual lectures.

The program aims to sharpen general education, knowledge and interest in visual, especially contemporary visual art. The program of “MoCA School” is aimed, first of all, at the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts, the students of History of Art and Archeology, the Faculty of Architecture, as well as the students who study design, fashion and anyone interested in the contemporary and have an affinity to get a sharper picture of art. 

 

Thematic lectures according to dates:

 

03/10/ 2023 / 8 pm / Presentation of MSU School – Introductory lecture about the concept and everything that will be covered by the MSU School program;

 

05/10/ 2023 / 8 pm / “Definition of Art”  – In the first lecture, the focus will be on the development of visual art through the centuries and how it has been developed. Branching out to craft, applied arts such as design, architecture and marketing will also be explained;

 

10/10/ 2023 / 8 pm / “Flight through time”  – In order to better understand contemporary art, a general knowledge of art history is needed, but this should be presented through the prism of contemporary art. For example: what impact did Michelangelo’s work have on the audience at the time it was created;

 

12/10/ 2023 / 8 pm / “Art in the 20th century” – Better acquaintance with the art of the last century, through more examples and directions. In the last century there have been great changes in art, the influence of which is still present today. (Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Joseph Kossuth, Jeff Koons, Bruce Naumann, Jenny Holzer);

 

17/10/ 2023 / 8 pm / “The Transition Between the 20th and 21st Centuries” – The main artists and changes in the period in the 90s and the beginning of the 2000s. (Damien Hirst, Matthew Barney, Felix Gonzalez Torres, Tracey Emin);

 

19/10/ 2023 / 8 pm / “Art in the 21st Century” – Introduction to the main changes in 21st century art, presentation of the main themes, curators and selection of 20 of the most important artists from this period. (Olafur Eliasson, Rirkrit Tiravanidza, Ai Wei Wei, Maurizio Cattelan, Tania Brugueira);

 

31/10/ 2023 / 8 pm / “Art Today” – Representation of the most current artists and works produced in the last 5 years that reflect the current issues of society today. (Tino Segal, Hito Steyerl, Forensic Architecture, Thomas Saraceno, Hiva K.);

 

02/11/ 2023 / 8 pm / “Contemporary Art in the Balkans” – Review of a selection of the most important artists from the territory of the Balkans present on the international scene. (Marina Avramović, Mladen Stilinović, N.S.K., Nemanja Cvijanović, Dan Perjovši, Daniel Knorr, Adrian Pazzi, Selman Selma);

 

07/11/ 2023 / 8 pm / “Art in Macedonia” – Presentation of some of the most important artists from Macedonia active on the local or international scene. (O.P.A., Igor Tosevski, Nada Prlja, Jane Chalovski and Hristina Ivanovska, Velimir Zernovski);

 

09/11/ 2023/ 8 pm / “Systems of Art Production in the 21st Century” – Representation of culture production systems, the formal institutional and informal system, the most important institutions, exhibitions, curators, schools. (Venice Biennale, Documenta, Manifesta, Berlin Biennale, Tate Modern, Guggenheim, Prada Foundation. Independent Scene).

17/06/2023 – Educational program for DKC Karposh and the Children’s Festival of Creativity “Trampolines”. Under the guidance of the curator Bojana Janeva and in the presence of the director of the Children’s Cultural Center Biljana Lalchevska, a training was held on the basic terms in art entitled “Time Travelers” with a focus on the “Defragmentation” exhibition. Educator: Bojana Janeva;

 

18/05/2023 – Inclusive creative spaces of the Spanish INARTdis project in Macedonia, which includes an art workshop inspired by the current exhibition 14th Biennial of Young Artists;

 

10/05/2023 – Art and educational workshop for students from OURC, Dr. Zlatan Sremec”, “Idnina” and SUGGS “Zdravko Cvetkovski” from Skopje with a final exhibition on 15. 05. 2023 at MSU. Coordinators from MSU: Bojana Janeva and Julia Manojlovska

 

22/11 – 20/12/2022 – MSU SCHOOL: educational course for students of the Faculty of Fine Arts, students of History of Art and Archeology, Faculty of Architecture, further for students studying design, fashion…, but also all those who show an interest in the contemporary art and have an affinity to get a deeper understanding of art. A series of lectures dedicated to the main issues that define art throughout history until today, the basic themes that are the focus of contemporary art, the production system and its interaction with the public. Topics deal with the definition of art, the development of visual art over the centuries and how it has been built up to today, what are the distinctions between what is art and what is craft, applied art and design, architecture and marketing. In order to understand contemporary art, a general prior knowledge of art history is necessary. An overview of modern art in the 20th century through specific examples and directions, taking into account that in the last century there were great changes in art, the influence of which is still present today, increasing the importance of the art created by Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Joseph Kossuth, and Jeff Koons. Focus on the tectonic changes in art in the 21st century, through a selection of the most important artists of today: Olafur Eliasson, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Ai Wei Wei, Maurizio Cattelan, Tino Segal, Hito Steyerl, Forensic Architects, Thomas Saraceno, Tania Brugueira, Hiva K. and others. The program also covers the contemporary art of the Balkans through the examples of the contribution of Marina Avramović, Mladen Stilinović, N.S.K., Nemanja Cvijanović, Dan Perjovschi, Daniel Knorr, Adrian Paci, Selman Selma and others. The focus of the lectures is also the art in Macedonia, as well as the presentation of some of the most important artists, who are active, not only on the local but also on the international scene, such as the collective O.P.A., the artists Igor Toševski, Nada Prlja, Jane Chalovski, Hristina Ivanovska, Velimir Zhernovski.
