DESIGN FOR RESURGENCE
Workshop with Klelija Zhivkovikj, 10.12. – 12.12. 2024
This workshop will put into practice the artist’s multi-year research “Design for Resurgence” into practice. The goal will be to sense new ways to design and act, which will be a direct and equal response to the world we live in, in the direction of the world we wish to create.
At the centre of this practice is the process of prototyping, developing models for embodiment and speculation, looking for insight into the ways in which humanity relates with the more-than-human world. The format of prototyping allows unformed ideas to be tested, putting the focus on their organizing principles as an attempt for a productive departure from anthropocentrism.
The question “How do we imagine the future?” is entangled with our choices as we create the present. This entanglement makes for a fertile soil for the field of speculative design to take root. But, what are these speculations? Do they contain any meaningful insight into possible ways to abandon our self-destructive trajectory, or are they simply palliative lullabies preparing us for an extinction event which seems more and more likely?
The participants will be split into teams. Each team will create speculative scenarios and prototypes, which can range from abstract ideas to detailed concepts.
The workshop is intended for everyone who is interested, regardless of their previous knowledge of design. The participants are encouraged to use their favourite tools: photography, video, drawing, digital illustration, text, performance etc, to articulate their vision for a resurgent world.
ANOTHER BORING WORKSHOP
Workshop with OPA (Slobodanka Stevcevska & Denis Saraginovski)
In the period from September 27 to October 1, 2022, the members of the art group OPA (Obsessive Possessive Aggression), Slobodanka Stevcheska and Denis Saraginovski held a workshop called “Another Boring Workshop” with a focus on some of the contemporary artistic practices.
During the workshop, participants had “boring” discussions, presentations, and practical collaborative work, as well as process-oriented practices based on specific (social) contexts. The methods and strategies that were elaborated relate to the concepts and development of works that are outside of traditional media and practices that are based on participation, collaborative work, and/or tactical media (works that communicate with the audience in the public space or public sphere ).
The workshop was intended for students or “young” people with an interest in contemporary art.
OPA (Obsessive Possessive Aggression) is a collaboration founded in 2001, between visual artists Slobodanka Stevcheska and Denis Saraginovski. OPA’s approach is context-specific, including pseudo-documentaries, tactical media, strategies of overidentification, subversive affirmation, etc. OPA has held a large number of independent exhibitions and artists residencies in several European cities, the USA, and Macedonia, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions and festivals, including “Transmediale” (Berlin), “Transeuropa – European Theater and Performance Festival” (Hildesheim), “Freewaves – Biennale of New Media” (Los Angeles), “Biennale of Contemporary Arts” (Moscow), “Ars Electronica” (Linz), etc. OPA is a co-founder and active member of the Cooperation Initiative (2012-2015).
