In the framework of the Interdisciplinary Program of the MoCA.
Jasmina Cibic works in film, sculpture, performance and installation to explore ‘soft power’. Questioning how political rhetoric is deployed through art and architecture, Cibic particularly probes how cultural production is used by the state to communicate certain principles and aspirations. Through unfolding the complex entanglements of art, gender and state power, she encourages viewers to consider the strategies employed in the construction of national culture. Her multi-layered approach draws together primary sources and historical ready-mades which she weaves into new narratives. Cibic plays a double-game, at once decoding mechanisms of power whilst building her own allegorical structures. Cibic will present an overview of her recent works and research projects.
Cibic will be in Skopje from June 25-29, and the visit is part of her latest research project in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art – Skopje.
The conversation will be moderated by the curator Vladimir Janchevski.
