Biography
Bruno Talpo (1940 – August 14, 2022) was an Italian artist, intellectual, art critic, and educator.
Born in Bergamo, Italy, Talpo graduated from the prestigious Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. He later spent many years sharing his expertise as a professor of plastic disciplines at the local art high school (Liceo artistico) in Bergamo.
Artistic Philosophy: Talpo termed his unique creative approach as a form of “neo-primitivism post-industrial.” He strived to capture the tension between the modern, industrialized world and the raw, primordial forces of nature. He famously stated, “My art wants to express contradiction, not conformity.”
Total Art Experimentation: While he embraced his identity as a painter, Talpo was a true proponent of “total art.” His career spanning from the 1960s to the 2000s encompassed painting, sculpture, video art, prints, photography, performance art, body art, installations, and global Mail Art (participating in major international mail art networks).
