Biography
Gabrijel Stupica developed his personal painting, which was based on the experiences of his Zagreb teachers and colleagues, especially his mentor Ljubo Babić , Vladimir Becić , Marino Tartaglia and others. Like his colleagues, he studied the works of the then popular Francisco Goya and Diego Velázquez ; he saw the originals for the first time at an exhibition of paintings from Prado in Geneva in 1939. He became familiar with contemporary modernist painting in Europe , and was also interested in the problems of interior light and darkness in paintings.
