Matta is a painter of fantastic environments who lived his adult life outside his homeland and became identified with the international Surrealist movement. He completed an architecture degree in Santiago (1931) and moved to Paris in 1933 to work for the renown architect and city planner Le Corbusier. While working in the architect’s studio, Matta became increasingly interested in painting.
