Peter Phillips

Born in Birmngham in 1939.

As one of the originators of Pop Art, Peter got his start at the Royal College of Arts with his fellow students David Hockney, Allen Jones, R.B. Kitaj and others of the British Pop Art Movement. When he was awarded a Harkness Fellowship he moved to New York, where he exhibited his work alongside his American counterparts Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and James Rosenquist. Phillips later returned to Europe, where he now resides and continues to paint and exhibit.

David Hockney is an English painter, draughtsman, printmaker, stage designer and photographer.Studied at the Bradford College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. In the early 1960s, he worked in a style that combined figuration, abstraction, and text, which identified him together with Richard Hamilton, R.B. Kitaj and Peter Blake with the British Pop art movement. His work, however, is deeply individual and beyond such categorization. It consists of still lifes and portraits rendered with delicacy and frankness. Rooted in his personal relationships, his homosexuality, and his literary interests and travels, Hockney’s art is, above all, deeply autobiographical.
